An exhibit opening and two workshops

Where were we? It’s fall, the energy of making is in full swing and it’s been a crazy month – 2 workshops in the past 2 weekends and an art show opening this coming weekend.

Eco-Dyeing with Natural Plants Workshop

2 weekends ago, we lucked out with amazingly beautiful weather for my fall workshop. It […]

Studio Fruits: Dye Drawings on Cloth – A Place of Not Knowing

A few months ago, I had assembled a group of dye drawings on 13 large silk screen frames and spent a day printing these out on cloth, sharing a few photos of that work in process in a previous post.

Below are some of the fruits from that day of printing in the studio:

Last night I went to China

I was walking down a long empty street, both sides lined with storefronts of alternating restaurants – Chinese, Indian, then Chinese again. I walked and walked, seemed like forever. I finally chose an Indian restaurant, went in and ordered some naan and water.

Over hill and dale

Art, Aspen, airplanes, apple trees, campfires, cows, chickens, sheep, horses, pigs, mountains, hot springs, farms, family, and fried foods.

2 weekends, lots of travel, people, and places – a good rousting change of scenery, a momentary respite from the corporate grind, and a spinning wheel of new perspectives and gratitude.

Mapping a Creative Life and Sharing What I’ve Learned

My artist talk on Monday night for RMCQ went well – despite the winter storm warning (AND the men’s college basketball championship), we had a pretty good turnout. Not sure that the basketball championship really kept anyone from attending, although I’m thankful I wasn’t also competing with a season premiere of Downton Abbey.

Rusty Bits Bouquets

One of my perks from my teaching gig in Telluride, CO was getting to see and wander through Kathy’s (one of my students) collection of rusty bits that she’s acquired over her many years of collecting rusty stuff.

And Kathy very generously gifted me with rusty bits from her collection, including some rusted pipes, cylinders, […]

All Good Plans and Why I Have to Make Art

The Plan was a test, to try and let the little bundles rest for 30 days before the big reveal.

silk with eucalyptus, hibiscus, rose petals, tin can-wrapped, steamed, left to rest for 11 days

The reality is, after 11 days, I noticed the first signs of “little fuzzies” starting to appear on […]

The waaaaaaiting is the hardest part

Anticipation…

Anticipaaaaaaation is … making me wait.

It’s keeping me waaaaaaaaaiiiting.

I’m going to try to let these 15 scarves passively cook in the sun and rest for a whole month before unbundling this time, to see just how much more of the natural plant color and texture might […]

Prepping for my breakdown screen-printing workshop at Ah Haa in August

Various paraphernalia used for breakdown screen printing process

I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. I’ve seen family too.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks of fire, rain, and family. The comings and goings of my Spanish family who thankfully visit from Madrid each summer and some rare vacation time for me […]

Black and Blue: Discharged Silk Scarves

Steaming right along in preparation for our Studio Tour event this coming weekend, I’ve been designing my first ever black silk scarves, using black scarf blanks and then drawing and printing on them with discharge paste to remove the color:

When discharging fabric, different value ranges can be achieved […]
